Happy #MentalHealthAwarenessDay, people! Look, I’ve said this a million times, I’ll say it again. I have anxiety, I’ve used both therapy and medication to treat my mental illness, and I’m trying to be vocal about it to help end stigma around mental health.
Stigma can take many forms, but one I’ve been particularly concerned about recently is the cost of therapy- financial stigma, if you will. Without good insurance- and even with it- therapy can be prohibitively expensive, which blocks access for many people who need it. I have the privilege of good medical insurance, and it makes me so angry to know that many people won’t get the treatment they need and deserve due to exorbitant costs.
That being said, there are offices that offer low-cost/no cost therapy, and I would encourage you to do some research on them if you’re looking for treatment. And if therapy isn’t up your alley, there are other options. Medication is also another option- mine has been pretty cheap (thanks to it being generic, and covered by insurance). Or, hey, exercise, diet, meditation- whatever floats your boat!
